What role does food security play in Algeria's economy? This article examines the significance of food security in Algeria's economic policy since its independence in 1962. It looks at the means and actions implemented to achieve food security, including subsidy and import policies for basic foodstuffs. The study briefly presents the characteristics of the consumption model of Algerians. It then exposes the importance of the means and actions implemented to achieve these objectives through in particular the recommended subsidy and import policies for basic foodstuffs by the state. The authors deduce some aspects of the limits and constraints of this food policy before suggesting some recommendations to strengthen its reliability in the face of the country's economic constraints. Statistical data is also provided in the article.
