Description

How have logistics partnerships evolved in Europe over the past five years? This paper presents findings from a survey of European shippers involved in outsourcing transport, warehousing, and logistics. A follow-up to a previous survey, this study provides insights into the characteristics of logistics partnerships and critical success factors. The research identifies two key observations: a gradual increase in the sophistication and scope of logistics partnerships and a consistent perception of outsourcing among shippers. It examines concerns about outsourcing and expected benefits, offering a management perspective on third-party logistics (3PL) trends. The study concludes that while partnerships have become more sophisticated, shippers' views on outsourcing remain unchanged. These findings inform strategic decisions for logistics partnerships and highlight the ongoing importance of understanding shipper expectations.

Published in the International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management, this study is directly relevant to the journal's focus on logistics activities. By examining trends in third-party logistics in Europe, it contributes to the journal's discussion of physical distribution and supply chain management. The longitudinal survey approach adds depth to the understanding of evolving industry practices.
