Charting the course to success, this paper examines the **career paths** of hotel managers in Mauritius, exploring the key themes of career mobility, planning, and the skills valued for career development. Three career paths are explored: career mobility, career planning, and the value of certain skills towards career development. This study analyzes the current debates surrounding these themes within the Mauritian context. The previous research and debates are presented to illustrate the high degree of international mobility for hotel managers. Also, the function of food and beverage results in the best route to get a hotel general management position. The study identifies active engagement in long-term career planning and highlights the perceived importance of managerial skills for advancement in hotel management. By highlighting the experiences and perspectives of hotel managers in Mauritius, this research provides valuable insights for aspiring hospitality professionals and human resource managers. It provides implications for the hotel industry to plan long term.
