Description

Are neurological disorders linked to coeliac disease? This review summarizes the current literature on the association between coeliac disease and various neurological disorders, including epilepsy, ataxia, neuropathy, and myelopathy. The exact nature of this association remains unclear, and whether a specific neurological complication occurs in coeliac disease remains unproven. While malabsorption may contribute to vitamin and trace element deficiencies, it does not fully explain the clinical course of many associated neurological disorders. The review explores alternative mechanisms such as altered autoimmunity, heredity, and gluten toxicity and proposes directions for future research. This comprehensive overview provides valuable insights for clinicians managing patients with coeliac disease and neurological symptoms.

This paper is suitable for the Postgraduate Medical Journal which publishes on general and internal medicine. The content gives attention on a variety of neurological disorders in association with coeliac disease that is valuable and helpfull for readers.
