Description

Oesophageal varices are a life-threatening risk, thus this article reviews the modern advances and techniques, for managing hemorrhages. Oesophageal varices hemorrhage is a life-threatening medical emergency, and is often associated with a high mortality rate. However, many advances in the treatment and prevention of variceal bleeding have been implemented in recent decades. This article reviews the current medical literature that encompasses various therapies, to treat hemorrhages from oesophageal varices. The study includes analysis and data collection regarding; new pharmaceutical agents, endoscopic variceal ligation, transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt and liver transplantation, which have significantly increased therapeutic options for treating the disorder. \ These findings provide clinical guidelines to improve physician decision making in the management of this disorder and thus; have the potential to advance medical procedures in the long-term.
