Description

In an era of escalating cyber threats, how can businesses safeguard their online operations? This paper addresses Internet security concerns, particularly in the context of electronic commerce, and examines the critical process of selecting an appropriate firewall. With the influx of thousands of users, security has become a paramount concern. Following an overview of Internet-based electronic commerce threats, the research discusses two firewall architectures and seven Internet access control technologies. It explores the strengths and limitations of each approach, providing a foundation for informed decision-making. A case study of SunCom Int’l Corporation (SIC), a small company, illustrates the practical considerations involved in firewall selection. The paper concludes with a summary and a discussion of the future of Internet firewalls, offering valuable insights for organizations seeking to protect their digital assets in the face of evolving cyber risks.

As a publication in Information Management & Computer Security, this paper aligns with the journal's core mission of exploring challenges and solutions in cybersecurity. By providing a practical case study of firewall selection, the article contributes to the journal's focus on bridging the gap between theory and practice in information security.
