Description

What are the characteristics of industrial wastewater and how can it be managed? This study evaluates the existing systems for collecting and disposing of industrial wastewater in Lagos, Nigeria. It examines the rate of wastewater generation in various industries, including paints, foods and beverages, battery, textile, brewery, and pulp and paper, focusing on selected industries in Ikeja Industrial Estate. The results reveal biochemical oxygen demand, pH, and temperature ranges for these wastewaters. The paper also identifies problems facing industrialists in treating and disposing of wastewater and offers suggestions for minimizing environmental pollution from industrial effluents. This research provides valuable insights for policymakers and industry stakeholders seeking to improve wastewater management practices and reduce the environmental impact of industrial activities in developing urban areas.
