Description

Does industrial growth necessitate environmental compromise? This paper examines the environmental impact of rapid industrialization in India, particularly focusing on small and large enterprises. It addresses the growing concern about the economy and the environment. Despite government support for the small enterprise sector to generate employment, these enterprises tend to be the worst polluters, often neglecting environmental issues. The study compares small and large enterprises in two highly industrialized states in India to identify differences in their approach to environmental protection. This research identifies the reasons for failing to install pollution control equipment and suggests recommendations for improving environmental regulation and enforcement. By comparing different enterprise sizes, it offers insights into effective strategies for balancing industrial growth and environmental sustainability in developing economies.
